Jim Bokern of the Manitowish Waters Historical Society presented “Moonshine in the Northwoods” to a crowd of 90 attendees at the Mercer Library on October 23, 2023. His fast-paced talk included examples of how moonshine served as an added income stream during tight times, how the Northwoods moonshine industry connected to Chicago and beyond, and of the rough-and-tumble life in Wisconsin’s Northwoods in the 1920s and 1930s.
