Now accepting applications for 2024 Artists in Residence

November 1, 2023

The Mercer Public Library is now accepting applications for 2024 Artists in Residence. Applications are due November 30.

The Mercer Public Library Artist in Residence program is designed to promote local artists and creators, provide engaging exhibits for library visitors, and provide more art and creativity programming for adults and children at the library. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Mercer Public Library.

The library’s first Artist in Residence is oil painter Sandra Cashman of Manitowish Waters, who was selected as an Artist in Residence beginning in September. She taught an Introduction to Oil Painting workshop for adults in October and a Miniature Acrylic Painting adult/child workshop at the library in early November. Cashman’s exhibit of oil painting originals and prints will be available at the library through the end of December 2023.

Artists who are selected for 2024 will receive a $1000 stipend and the opportunity to exhibit at the library for one three-month term. Artists in Residence will also engage with the community through art instruction workshops, receptions, and more.

The program is open to all artists and creators, professional and amateur. Preference will be given to artists from northern Wisconsin and the surrounding region working in a 2D or 3D medium such as painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, collage, digital art, book arts, ceramics, fabric or fiber arts, etc. Mixed media and interdisciplinary artists are welcome to apply.
