February declared “Love Your Library Month” in Mercer

At their regular meeting on Thursday, January 21, 2021, the Mercer Town Board approved a declaration officially naming February as “Love Your Library” month in Mercer, Wisconsin. The Friends of the Mercer Library will be celebrating with several activities in the coming month. Stay tuned for details!

Proclamation: Love Your Library Month, February 2021

WHEREAS, hundreds of libraries and millions of library supporters across the country are celebrating Love Your Library Month this February; and

WHEREAS, libraries are a portal to a wealth of information for the community and provide entry to important research about health, economics, employment, the environment and countless other areas to support better living conditions and to help people lead longer, more productive and fulfilling lives; and

WHEREAS, libraries are cornerstones of the community, providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of life-long learning and connect with the thoughts and ideas of others from ages past to the present; and

WHEREAS, libraries play an important role in the education and development of children; and

WHEREAS, libraries empower all people to pursue their interests, discover their passions and achieve their highest potential as learners and citizens; and

WHEREAS, in times of crisis, libraries and library staff play a critical role in continuing to support their communities when they need it the most; and

WHEREAS, libraries promote equity, making digital technology and information equally accessible to all; and

WHEREAS, librarians bring communities together, creating welcoming spaces and  go above and beyond in providing services and meeting the needs of  the  community; and

WHEREAS, libraries provide an array of services to the public beyond a stack of books, including programs, technology assistance, games, puzzles, hobby tools, scientific implements, audio visual equipment, and more; and

WHEREAS, the Mercer Public Library has over 2500 cardholders, and the public visited the Library more than 13,000 times in 2019 and borrowed nearly 18,000 items that year;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Town of Mercer Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim February 2021 Love Your Library Month in Mercer, Wisconsin and encourages everyone to visit the Mercer Public Library and explore the wide variety of services, resources and collections the Library provides.
