What to do with your solar eclipse glasses?

Now that the eclipse has passed, you may be wondering what to do with your eclipse glasses. Here are a few suggestions for what to do.

1. Bring your glasses back to the Library.

The Library is looking into options for donating gently used glasses. A number of organizations collect glasses that are ISO 12312-2 compliant to ship to communities with upcoming eclipses so school-aged children with limited resources can safely experience the eclipse.

2. Store your glasses for solar viewing any time.

Solar eclipse glasses can be used any time you want to safely look up at our nearest star. In order to stay safe, keep your glasses at room-temperature in a case or envelope to prevent scratching or puncturing the lenses. Modern eclipse glasses that are ISO compliant do not expire if properly maintained, but be sure to check that the filters are undamaged before using.

3. Remove the lenses and recycle the cardboard.
