Mercer Library Welcomes Artist in Residence, Sandy Winkleman!

The Friends of the Mercer Public Library are proud to welcome dot artist Sandy Winkleman as the Mercer Public Library Artist in Residence for the fourth quarter of 2024. Winkleman’s work will be featured in exhibits and events at the library from October through December 2024. The library exhibit includes dot art on vinyl albums displayed throughout the library.

The library will host an Opening Reception on Friday, November 1 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Mercer Public Library. This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served. Winkleman will present brief remarks about her work and her experience as an artist at 5:30 p.m.

A pivotal moment in Sandy’s artistic exploration arose when she acquired an old 33 RPM vinyl record. On this unconventional canvas, she meticulously crafted a detailed mandala, leaving the original record label intact. This fusion of artistry and musical nostalgia marked a turning point in her creative journey, propelling her to share her distinctive art with the world.

Apart from her artistry, Sandy shares her home in Lake Tomahawk, WI with her husband of nearly 50 years, and her two beloved feline companions. When not absorbed in dotting, she finds joy tending to her garden, enjoying the warmth of campfires, and leisurely cruising Horsehead Lake’s tranquil waters on a pontoon boat, reveling in life’s simple pleasures.

Winkleman will be teaching two free workshops on creating holiday ornaments that feature dot art at the Mercer Library during her residency: Saturday, November 30 from 1:30-3:30pm and Thursday, December 5 from 5:30-7:30pm. Both classes are free, but space is limited, and registration is required. More information will be posted on the library’s website.

The Mercer Library Artist in Residence program is sponsored by the Friends of the Mercer Public Library. Each quarter the library will welcome a new artist for exhibits and workshops for the public.
