Common Scams & Frauds

June 4 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

American consumers reported losing over $10 billion to fraud in 2023, according to data recently released by the FTC. Do you know someone who’s been the victim of an investment scam, romance scam, grandparent scam, tech support scam, or other fraud? Do you want to learn to recognize the signs of a scam so you can catch it before you get caught?

Jeff Kersten of the Wisconsin Bureau of Consumer Protection will visit the Mercer Library on Tuesday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m. to discuss the details of common scams and frauds. You’ll hear about the details of common scams, the warning signs of a scam, and what to do if you or someone you know falls victim to a scam or fraud. Helpful factsheets from The Bureau of Consumer Protection will be available.

As Wisconsin’s lead agency for consumer protection, the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection, provides information and education, mediates complaints, investigates cases, and takes enforcement actions to fight fraudulent and deceptive practices that harm consumers and honest businesses.

This program is free and open to everyone. For more information, call the library at 715-476-2366.
