Thursday night meetings are an Open Meeting and are held at 7:30 p.m. from May through October and at 7:00 p.m. from November through April. Sunday meetings are an Open Big Book Study and are held at 6:00 p.m. year-round.

A conversation with author Lauren Fox

Author Lauren Fox will appear in a conversation with the Mercer Public Library and Winchester Public Library at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024. The event will be held at the Mercer Community Center, 2648W Margaret Street, Mercer. Refreshments will be served. Fox’s 2021 novel, Send For Me, was selected as a Today Show “Read with Jenna” pick. Based on the author’s own family letters, Send for Me tells the story of a young woman in prewar Germany intertwined with the story of her granddaughter in modern day Wisconsin. NPR called Send for Me, “a richly imagined, lyrically written story.” It was named a New York Times Notable Book and Bestseller. Lauren Fox earned her MFA from the University of Minnesota and is the author of the novels Send for Me, Days of Awe, Still Life with Husband, and Friends Like Us. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times, Marie Claire, Parenting, Psychology Today, The Rumpus, and Salon. She lives in Milwaukee. Beginning Photography with your Smartphone

Smartphones have eliminated the need for expensive cameras to get a quality image. Thanks to this fantastic photo taking tool, it only takes a bit of time and attention to capture that beautiful image, that precious moment, that memory… you see right before your eyes. Join photographer Aline Fetter in learning the fundamentals of smartphone photography, from basic camera functions to composition tips and techniques. This free workshop will be presented at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20. The first half of the class will be instructional, the second half you will shoot indoors and outdoors trying different techniques. All you need to bring is your smartphone. Aline Fetter has been a full-time resident of the Northwoods since 2018. She began her photographic journey as an advertising executive, supervising dozens of photo shoots and reviewing thousands of photographs, before studying photography at the College of DuPage.
