2024 Library Passport program

The Northern Waters Library Network invites visitors and residents to take a tour of the area's public libraries for a chance to win a prize! What’s not to love about northern Wisconsin? We’re home to the Musky Capital of the World (Boulder Junction), the world’s largest musky and walleye fish hatchery (Spooner), and the birthplace of the wearable Smokey Bear costume (Mercer)! While you’re exploring northern Wisconsin this spring and summer, make sure to include public libraries on your travel itinerary for a chance to win a prize! Launching in early April, the Northern Waters Library Network (NWLN) Library Passport program invites you to stop in at any Northern Waters library and pick up a passport. Bring your passport with you as you travel throughout northern Wisconsin this spring and summer and get a stamp at each library you visit. Collect 10 different stamps and you’ll receive an entry form for a prize drawing, giving you a chance to win one of four Kwik Trip gas cards totaling $500! The passports contain a variety of “fun facts” about each NWLN library, including library and community attractions. Swing by the Winchester Public Library and say “hello” to their library cat, Gus. Beginning Photography with your Smartphone

Smartphones have eliminated the need for expensive cameras to get a quality image. Thanks to this fantastic photo taking tool, it only takes a bit of time and attention to capture that beautiful image, that precious moment, that memory… you see right before your eyes. Join photographer Aline Fetter in learning the fundamentals of smartphone photography, from basic camera functions to composition tips and techniques. This free workshop will be presented at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20. The first half of the class will be instructional, the second half you will shoot indoors and outdoors trying different techniques. All you need to bring is your smartphone. Aline Fetter has been a full-time resident of the Northwoods since 2018. She began her photographic journey as an advertising executive, supervising dozens of photo shoots and reviewing thousands of photographs, before studying photography at the College of DuPage. Inspired by her passion for nature, Aline began exploring the waterways, roads, and paths of the Northwoods with her camera in hand. She strives to capture the unique moments and patterns in an all-too-transient world. From the subtle beauty of a sun dappled waterlily to the vivacious reflections of autumn on fast moving water, […]
