Fried Green Tomatoes (rated PG-13) is an American Southern Gothic comedy-drama film featuring the story of Evelyn Couch (Kathy Bates), a timid housewife in her 40s in 1980s Birmingham, AL. While visiting her husband Ed’s aunt, Couch meets Ninny Threadgoode (Jessica Tandy), an elderly resident who claims to be staying at the home to keep an old friend company before returning to her house. During her visits, Ninny shares stories about the long-abandoned town of Whistle Stop, its residents, and the exploits of her free-spirited sister-in-law Idgie (Mary Stuart Masterson), owner of a small cafe in the 1920s, and the bond with her friend Ruth (Mary-Louise Parker).
