The Friends of the Mercer Public Library are proud to announce the start of their annual membership drive, beginning May 1, 2025. After surpassing last year’s goal of 200 members, the Friends are setting their sights even higher with a new goal of 225 members for the 2025/2026 year.
Anyone who makes a donation, no matter the amount, is considered a member of the Friends and helps support the library’s vital programs and services. Whether you’re renewing your membership or joining for the first time, your contribution makes a lasting impact.
While the Town of Mercer and Iron County provide essential funding for the library’s operations, the Friends of the Library play a key role in funding the library. Through their support, the library is able to provide a wide range of programs, equipment, and special events.
In the past year alone, donor support enabled:
· $45,000 for library renovation projects
· $3,400 for summer programs serving over 500 participants
· $5,000 to support the Artist in Residence program
· $3,000 to upgrade to energy-efficient lighting
· $1,700 for an on-site AED device
· $2,000 to co-host author Lauren Fox with the Winchester Library
· $1,000 for a new staff computer
The Friends also sponsor unique events and classes, including the Earth Day Fair, Smokey Bear’s Birthday Party, Trunk or Treat, the Chamber Christmas Carnival, and hands-on workshops like sourdough baking and pysanky egg painting.
“Our members and donors are the heart of what we do,” said Beth Wetzler, President of the Friends of the Mercer Public Library. “Every donation, big or small, helps us continue to grow and serve our community.”
