The Friends of the Mercer Public Library holds regular monthly meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 11:00 a.m. New volunteers are always welcome! Essential components of soils and how various amendments and fertilizer applications impact soil conditions for plant growth will be covered. Learn what you can do to ensure you have optimum soil conditions in your yard and garden. Compost is one of the better soil amendments – discussion will also include the fundamentals to make your own backyard compost. The library is seeking input on how we can help preserve, document, and display our community's history. Join us for "Memory Mondays," an engaging gathering where local history buffs, community enthusiasts, and curious minds come together to share insights stories and ideas about our local history. If you have ideas, you are invited to attend! People with questions or personal projects are also invited to attend, ask questions about the library's services and digitization equipment, and share information. We’ll play old time, bluegrass, and folk songs. Bring your instrument, a tuner, and a couple of songs to lead. Three-chord songs are best! The Mercer Public Library invites kids of all ages to their annual Halloween event on Thursday, October 31st at 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The library and other individuals, businesses, and organizations in Mercer will be handing out candy and treats at the Library’s indoor “Trunk or Treat”. Area residents and community organizations: Help make this a fun event by handing out candy or other treats and activities inside the library! Costumes are encouraged. RSVP at 715-476-2366 so they have enough space for everyone. Mercer Lions will be serving complimentary hot dogs and other food in the kitchen, and there will be activities for all ages.

The Friends of the Mercer Public Library welcomed dot artist Sandy Winkelman as the Mercer Public Library’s latest Artist in Residence for 2024. Winkelman's artwork will be featured in exhibits and events at the library from October through the end of December 2024. Winkelman will share her work at a Welcome Reception on Friday, November 1 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Mercer Public Library. This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served. Sandy will present brief remarks about her work at 5:00 p.m.
