Whether it’s purchasing items from companies that commit to eco-friendly practices or buying from local businesses\, there are endless ways you can incorporate sustainable living in your day-to-day lives. Door prizes will include gift baskets\, outdoor hummingbird feeders\, a native bee hotel\, and the ever popular rain barrel. \nStop by the Library during regular hours to take a sneak peek at the goodies to be won during the Earth Day Fair. \nRecycling Programs\nEvery year\, the Mercer Library brings a number of different ways you can recycle hard to dispose of items. This year will include denim recycling (90% or higher cotton content) for Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green program\, new or gently used shoes for the Soles4Souls program\, plastic bags and film for the NexTrex Community Recycling program to benefit the area organizations\, rechargeable and single use batteries (including lithium\, lead\, nickel-based\, and alkaline)\, and electronic recycling sponsored by Trig’s Recycle Center. \nEvent Vendors\nThe Earth Day Fair provides an opportunity for businesses and organizations that support renewable energy\, recycling\, natural resources\, silent sports\, environmental education\, or other sustainability topics to participate and connect with visitors to the Fair. If you are interested in reserving a table\, there is no cost to reserve a table and all are welcome. Contact Library Director Julia Pusateri at director@mercerpubliclibrary.org to register. \n2025 Earth Day vendors include: Northwoods Land Trust\, Beeswax Food Wraps by Sandy Sharp\, Mercer Seed Library\, Iron County Land and Water Conversation Department\, Wisconsin DNR Mercer Field Office staff\, North Country Trail Association\, MECCA Trails\, Iron County Outdoor Recreation Enthusiasts (ICORE)\, North Lakeland Discovery Center\, and the Northwoods Wildlife & Wetlands Club. \n2nd Annual Water Walk\nWhen: Saturday April 19\, 2025 immediately following the Fair \nWhere: Mercer Public Library\, 2648W Margaret Street \nWhat: Join the 2nd Annual Water Walk\, sponsored by the Mercer United Methodist Church to raise awareness and funds to dig wells and bring water into homes of the Navajo Nation in Arizona. This will be a short walk and all ages are welcome. \nNorthwoods Land Trust Guided Hike\nWhen: Saturday\, April 19\, 2025 from 1pm-3pm\nWhere: Beaver Creek Hemlocks Conservation Area is located along Hwy. 182 in the Town of Sherman\, Iron County\, south of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. There is a small parking area for vehicles. Nearly 2.5 miles of easy to moderately difficult hiking trails meander through the property. \nWhat: Join Northwoods Land Trust (NWLT) for a guided hike at one of their flagship properties\, Beaver Creek Hemlocks Conservation Area. Located in the heart of the Springstead area\, this 200+ acre property features an abundance of old-growth hemlock forest – a rare ecosystem on the Wisconsin landscape. In addition to looking for and learning about the unique flora and fauna here\, special attention will be given to how forests like this contribute to mitigating climate change through carbon storage. Trail and weather conditions can vary a lot this time of year\, so be sure to bring appropriate clothing/footwear. This will be a slow-paced hike\, with frequent stops to observe and talk about what we see.
