SUMMARY:Tie-Dye Party
DESCRIPTION:It’s time for our annual Tie-Dye Party on July 1 from 10am-12pm! Make your own custom tie-dye shirts using supplies provided by the Library right on time to wear during the 4th of July celebrations! \n100% cotton t-shirts will be provided by the Mercer Library on a first-come\, first-serve basis while supplies last. Supplies cannot be reserved or held for attendees. For larger groups\, we encourage attendees to bring their own shirts to ensure that you have all the sizes you need. From past experience and best practice\, we recommend that you use 100% cotton or other natural fiber (hemp\, denim\, bamboo\, or wool). Synthetic fibers are not recommended (polyester or nylon) but may be used; the Mercer Library cannot guarantee the outcome\, quality or vibrancy of the colors\, or the ability for the dye to last after washing. \nFor more information about all of our 2025 summer programs\, please click here or call the Mercer Public Library at 715-476-2366. Thanks to a sponsorship by the Friends of the Mercer Public Library\, all summer programs are FREE and open to the public. \nPhoto submitted by attendee of the 2024 Tie-Dye Party.

SUMMARY:Autoharp Sing-Along with Spoons for the People
DESCRIPTION:Sing along with Spoons for the People on July 17 from 10am-11am! Participants will learn about their own voices and experience the physical and mental benefits of singing with others. Through breathing exercises and fun warm-ups\, they will learn about the structure of the voice and tips for healthy\, efficient singing. With printed lyrics available\, we’ll sing a repertoire of original songs and classic popular music tailored to children or all ages. Singing is not mandatory\, and listeners will enjoy hearing our collective voices accompanied by the folksy autoharp and the comical nose flute. Gaining personal confidence\, building a sense of community\, and connecting the mind with the body are all accessible ways we can improve our lives through singing! \nVince Schueren (AKA ‘Spoons for the People’) is a singer\, teacher\, and folk instrumentalist who prioritizes playfulness and creativity when performing. He’ s dedicated to learning\, formally and informally\, about music as a way to build community and encouraging others to find their voices. Born and raised in the South\, he moved to the Chequamegon Bay area in 2021 and enjoys performing\, teaching voice lessons\, directing community choirs\, and facilitating hands-on educational workshops. He loves improvisation\, songwriting\, group singing\, unique folk instruments\, and (of course) teaching unsuspecting concert-goers how to play the musical spoons! Vince holds a Bachelors degree in Vocal Performance and a Masters in Music Education. He recently won first place in the regional singing competition\, Big Top Idol\, and his debut album\, ‘Country-Queer Balladeer’\, was recorded live and released in October 2024. You can find him online at www.SpoonsForThePeople.com\, or on Facebook/Youtube/Bandcamp. \nFor more information about all of our 2025 summer programs\, please click here or call the Mercer Public Library at 715-476-2366. SUMMARY:A Conversation with Sara Rath
DESCRIPTION:Join author Sara Rath for a discussion of the novel and the true story of Hurley’s 100-year old unsolved “Lady of the Evening” murder around which her novel resolves. Rath will share how she wove Northwoods history through her modern-day suspense story that centers at “The Last Resort” on a fictitious Star Lake. Much of the setting for her novel was inspired by the summer cabin her family visits each year near Mercer. \nAbout the author: “Accidental Summer” is the third in the Star Lake series of novels by award-winning author Sara Lindsay Rath. A native of Manawa\, Wis.\, Rath earned her undergraduate degree in English from UW-Madison and has an MFA in writing from Vermont College. She is the recipient of fellowships from the Wisconsin Arts Board\, the MacDowell Colony\, and the Ucross Foundation. She still visits the family cabin near Mercer\, where generational ties familiarized her with the natural world of the Northwoods. Married for over 32 years to Del Lamont\, their combined family embraces six children\, 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. SUMMARY:Birds of Prey with Northwoods Wildlife Center
DESCRIPTION:Through our birds of prey educational program\, you will learn about the unique and beautiful adaptations that help these fantastic birds hunt and survive. Our educators usually bring Tommi\, an extraordinary and gorgeous Red-Tailed Hawk. On our education tour\, you will see Peregrine Falcons\, Great Horned Owls\, Goshawks\, and Red Tailed Hawks. You will also get to see a full-sized bald eagle nest\, test your grip against some of the strongest grips in the animal kingdom and learn all sorts of great things about birds of prey. \nThe culmination of a dream of local veterinarian Dr. Rory Foster and his wife Linda\, the Northwoods Wildlife Center was incorporated in 1979\, and became a separate entity from his veterinarian clinic\, Foster-Smith Animal Hospital in Minocqua\, Wisconsin after a 2-day old fawn with a broken leg was admitted to his clinic. The Fosters were determined to help.  Soon after the fawn arrived\, the Fosters began treating multitudes of other wild animal species brought to the clinic by concerned citizens.  It was then decided that the Fosters would form a non-profit organization dedicated to helping injured wildlife. The Northwoods Wildlife Center wildlife hospital was built next to the Foster-Smith Animal Hospital and was officially opened on June 19\, 1982\, becoming one of the first wildlife hospitals in the Midwest. \nFor more information about all of our 2025 summer programs\, please click here or call the Mercer Public Library at 715-476-2366. Thanks to a sponsorship by the Friends of the Mercer Public Library\, all summer programs are FREE and open to the public.
