Miniature Paintings in Acrylic – a child/adult workshop with Sandra Cashman, Artist in Residence
November 4 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free
Artist in Residence Sandra Cashman invites children and their adults to a workshop on Miniature Paintings in Acrylic on Saturday, November 4 at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Each child and each adult will receive a 4 x 4” painting panel on which to create a miniature acrylic painting to take home. Participants will learn about mixing colors using the color wheel and a limited color palette. Starting with a simple drawing that can be traced onto the panel, students will paint backgrounds and foregrounds, large shapes first, leaving details for last. Each panel will have a magnet on the back so it can go on a fridge or other metal surface.
A variety of images will be provided to choose from, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own reference photos to work from if desired. Suggested subjects might include a bird or a flower, sunset, still life, a piece of fruit or vegetable, favorite animal…
Panels, paints, brushes, and other supplies will be provided. If you have your own brushes, paints, and palette, you are welcome to bring them. We will be using the following colors: Ultramarine blue, Cadmium yellow light, Cadmium red light, Alizarin crimson, Titanium white.
Bring your own apron or an old shirt to protect your clothes from the paint. Avoid wearing long sleeves, or wear sleeves that can easily be rolled up to prevent paint on the sleeves.
This free workshop is for children ages 7 and older, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited, so please register in advance by calling the library at 715-476-2366.
